About the research
The AI and Digital Future team investigates the impact of technology on the arts and humanities through human senses of sight, sound, touch, taste and thought, and embodied practices and experiences. The team members reflect critically on topics such as the emerging sensibility of AI augmented creative process, the history of automatic writing, the transitions in screen-based and touchless human/machine interfaces, the collective social and cultural intelligence, the humanistic dimension of software engineering, and their extended ethical and practical considerations. The team plans to bring exhibitions, artists, authors and renowned experts to campus to participate in activities related to the study of AI that can inspire deep innovation and introspection. The events organized by the team includes a thematic artificial intelligence exhibition to open at the Grunwald Gallery of Art at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design in the fall of 2024. This exhibition will feature works from both international competitive submissions and invited feature artists. The team is also collaborating with the College of Arts and Sciences on a campus-wide graduate AI research exchange which will start with an installation/poster session. Additionally, the AI Digital Future team is in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Study which hosts the yearly Bloomington Symposia. In 2025, the symposia theme will be related to intelligence, including AI. The team is currently exploring collaborative potential with the University of Manchester in England and their existing program of similar pursuit.
